Gypsy Dancer

Am                             E
See the swirling gypsy dancer
Dm                                           E
Spinning as she goes around the room,
Am
Blowing like the wind in the desert
E
Free beneath the moon.

Chorus:
E                              Am
Li-da li-da li-da li-da li-da
Dm                   Am
Li-da li-da li-da lo
E                       Am
Li-da li-da li-da li-da
E                       Am
Li-da li-da li-da lo

Now she dances in the cardrooms.
Once she had sand beneath her toes.
Nothing ever seems to take us
Quite as far as we would go.

Chorus:

In her life she's seen so many changes.
All her life she's danced to different tunes.
It seems that she can always keep on going
If only she can dance beneath the moon.

Chorus:

She stops her dancing as her shift ends.
She says goodbye and goes on home alone.
But on her way she stops and then she dances
Free beneath the moon.

Chorus: repeat twice to end

Just Another Long Lonesome Road Song

        Dm                  C                Dm            C
As I walk down this road singing yesterday's songs
   Dm                C                 Dm
I know that I've been here before.
       Dm            C                     Dm          C
I've worn other clothes and I've had other names,
    Dm                     C                Dm
It sometimes comes back to me now.

Chorus:
         C            Dm         C             Dm
Sail away, sail away sail away sail away,
Dm           C            Dm
Sail away, sail away now.

I think of you now as we used to be then,
Loving and sharing our lives.
And all that I know is I still love you so
Even tho you are gone from me now.

Chorus:

The days go by slow and the seasons still turn,
Life going on day by day.
I've traveled this road ten thousand times now
And I'll take it again some day.

Chorus:

I've loved many boys and I've loved many girls
And even some women and men.
I've cried many tears and I've sung many songs
And I guess that I'll do it again.

Chorus:

The sun rises high in the mountains each morn
And sets in the western sea.
Everything here has been done before,
Especially you and me.

Chorus:

Learning to love is a timeless thing,
We do it again and again.
For that's what our lives are all about,
We practice again and again.

Chorus: repeat twice to end

Dm                      C               Dm                             C               Dm

I want you sweet woman beside me, I want to make love to you tonight.
I want to wake up in the morning and find you there at first light.

You've been there, I've been there,
      Dm
It's flowed through our veins.
Dm                       A7                    Dm
Our mothers have nourished us this way.
Dm                      A7        Dm
We breathed it before we ever breathed air,
Dm               A7               Dm
So we can remember it today.

Chorus:

Dm                        A7          Dm
Just look back, be quiet, and listen

What Good Is Money?

         Dm                                    C
I was raised by a river where the Salmon used to run,
             Dm                             C
And the redwood trees used to grow.
                 Dm                                        C
Where the apple orchards were there are houses now,
             Dm                                   C
And my friends don't live there any more.

Chorus:
          Dm                               C
What good is money when the things you love are gone?
         Dm
Don't sell the land, it's all we have,
              C                                Dm
It's been sold too many times before.

My Grandmother's house belongs to someone else now.
My father's shop stands empty and alone.
Strangers have moved to the land that I knew
And I have nowhere now to go home.

Chorus:

Where the campground used to be by the side of the creek,
A gold mine has claimed for its own.
They can foul up the water and cut down all the trees,
When it's over they'll leave and go home.

Chorus:

Do you trust them to care for the land like you do?
When there's money to be made, you know what they'll do.
Don't sell the land, don't sell the trees,
Don't sell the water, don't sell the breeze.

Chorus:

Uba ah ah
Am
Yuba yuba yuba yuba
E
Uba uba uba uba
Am
Yuba yuba yuba yuba
E            Am
Uba uba ay

Three forks of the Yuba, middle north and south.
Named for the wild grape that melts so in your mouth.
All night, all day, it melts so in your mouth.

Chorus:

Often in the summer when it gets too hot,
My friends and I go down there and lie naked on the rocks.
All night, all day, we lie naked on the rocks.

Chorus:
last chorus goes on and on as long as the audience participates
degenerates into wild salsa beat and coyote howls

(follow pattern)
Listen to the children playing all day long,
They're having fun.

Listen to the love that's growing heart to heart,
It fills my soul.

Listen to the thunder crashing in the sky,
The lightning sparks.

Listen to the people splashing in the pond,
They cool me off.

Listen to the wind whistling through the trees,
It soothes my pain.

Listen to the river running to the sea,
It flows on by.

Saline Valley Song

Chorus:
C                                     G
Just another Saline Valley Sunrise (Sunset),
A7                                   D
Just another Saline Valley Day.
C                       G
Just a little bit of Heaven
          A7          D
That's come my way.

C                                                  G
Where the wind whistles down the canyon
A7                        D
As the jets fly overhead.
C                                       G
Where the Coyot's and the Ravens
A7                            D
Are just waiting to be fed.

Chorus:

Where the Burros eat the palm trees
While we soak beneath the sun.
Laying naked in the hot tubs,
Something here for everyone.

Chorus:

Busses camped next door to tipis.
4-wheel drivers come and go.
Songs and drumming fill the night air,
Hours and days can seem so slow.

Chorus:

We're only serious when Sirius rises
Laughing as we soak beneath the stars.
Pizza's cooking in Dutch ovens
Is a specialty of ours.

Chorus:

Where The Gold Was

          Dm
In the days of old they came so bold,
         Am
They cut down the trees, and they took the gold,
               E
And they killed all the people in the Indian tribes
                 Am
Where the gold was.

         Dm
They killed each other and they fought and stole,
          Am
These men who came to claim the gold.
         Dm
They moved the mountains and they moved the streams
                 E
Where the gold was.

       Am
The native people who were here before
Dm
Had no use for all the gold.
         Am
They spent their days gathering food
        E
And hunting.

                 Am
There was hardly war from tribe to tribe,
                 Dm
There was plenty of food for all to survive,
E
Differing people lived side by side
                 Am
Where the gold was.

And then came the miners of '49
To end their culture before its time.
Women and children, young and old
Went hungry.

When the game was gone and their hunting ground
Taken over by miners and out of bounds,
Sometimes they stole a cow or a horse
For Dinner.

And then the miners in their righteous rage
Stormed the hills looking for the brave
Who stole their cow and then they killed
The whole village.

And now you tell us we must honor them,
Those men who murdered the Indians then
Built their land upon the bones
Of thousands.

Now here is is like it was before
One Hundred and Fifty years ago,
The miners can come an ruin the land
If there's gold there.

They take it out of one hole in the ground
To put in another where it'll never be found.
They lock it up behind closed door
And guard them.

Gold they say is a wond'rous thing,
Some sell their soul for the wealth it brings,
And you and I should all be glad
They found it.

A hundred and fifty years ago
The miners came and took the gold
And showed the people all over the world
What greed was.

A mine reopened just the other day,
Miner's made this country I heard them say,
And that's why you just have to okay
This gold mine.

Now the school down the road from the mine can't drink
The water from the wells down underneath
The land that they said they had to mine
'Cause there was gold there.

They couldn't make any money from the gold,
The trees were next, they had to be sold.
There isn't enough money now
For the water.

My prayer this sesquicentennial
Is that we all learn from this to love
The trees, the water, the gold in the land
And each other.

(first stanza chord progression)
A hundred and fifty years ago
The miners came to claim the gold
And showed the people all over the world
What Greed was.
